Gambling addiction: shocking statistics among Ukrainians revealed.

According to the sociological research by the Razumkov Center commissioned by ZN.UA, 8.5% of Ukrainians admitted to playing online casinos or betting on sports. Additionally, 27% of Ukrainians personally know addicted individuals or families where gamblers live.
Serhiy Romaniuk, an economist-cyberneticist and applied psychologist, noted that many respondents admitted to playing gambling games out of fear of being candid with sociologists. The number of people who know online casino players or those who bet on sports has also increased.
Romaniuk also emphasizes that gamblers usually do not talk about their obsession with others, only with similar gamblers. Therefore, the number of people who know addicted gamblers could be even higher. It also turned out that 27% of Ukrainians know addicted individuals or families where gamblers live.
Romaniuk noted that this means that at least 27% of Ukrainians have problems with gambling and financial losses. He emphasizes that this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. He also notes that gambling can lead to family breakdowns and mental problems.
The survey was conducted from June 20 to 28, 2024, and involved 2027 respondents aged 18 and older. The survey revealed that 8.5% of Ukrainians played online casinos or bet on sports, and 27% know addicted gamblers. It is worth noting that the survey results have a margin of error of 2.3%.
As of the end of July, the Register of Persons Restricted from Access to Gambling Establishments contains information on 8257 individuals who have problems with gambling. This was reported by the head of the Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (KRAIL), Ivan Rudi, in his interview for "Glavkom".
