Sky-high prices: abnormal heat will affect the cost of potatoes and other vegetables.

Ukrainians were explained how high temperatures affected the production of vegetables, berries, and greens.
According to the portal agroportal.ua, this summer Ukraine, like other countries of the world, faced extreme weather conditions. Extremely high temperatures recorded in various regions of the country worry not only ordinary citizens but also farmers. These climate changes inevitably affect agriculture, which is a key sector of the Ukrainian economy.
According to the deputy head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Denis Marchuk, due to the heat when growing vegetables in open ground, there is a need for additional watering and fertilization, which all translate to additional financial costs for farmers. This season, weather conditions have a significant impact on the price of products. The heat has caused particular problems for farmers in the Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.
The vegetable market in Ukraine has faced an atypical situation. Usually, in August, tomatoes are accessible and of good quality, but this year their price remains high. The same goes for cucumbers, which are sold in Kyiv markets for about 90 hryvnias per kilogram.
Victor Halych, the head of the “Association of Farmers and Private Landowners of Poltava Rebirth,” notes that late corn is facing problems with setting, and potatoes are beginning to wither on the plants.
According to him, such high temperatures make harvesting potatoes an impossible task. Cabbage also suffers from the heat, leading to the dying off of lower leaves. And on plantations in the Odesa region, there is massive spoilage of watermelons.
Let us remind you that in Ukraine, a rise in the prices of cigarettes and alcohol is expected.
