Experts in the automotive industry believe that mixing gasoline of different grades, such as A-95 and A-98, will not pose a serious threat to the engine. However, constant violation of the manufacturer's recommendations may adversely affect the performance of the motor, reports mmr.

Main types of gasoline at gas stations

A-95 and A-98 gasoline are the most common types of fuel in Ukraine, differing in octane number. This indicator shows the fuel's resistance to spontaneous ignition. A-98 is recommended for powerful or turbocharged engines, while A-95 is suitable for standard cars.

After mixing both grades of gasoline in the fuel tank, the engine will operate on an average octane number. Engine management systems can easily adapt to such changes, preventing engine failure. However, experts recommend avoiding constant mixing of different grades of gasoline.

“If you made a mistake and mixed A-95 and A-98 - it's not a big deal. Just continue filling up with the recommended fuel,” the specialists advise.

Myths and reality about gasoline

The belief that using A-98 gasoline in an engine designed for A-95 will increase power or extend engine life is false. On the contrary, this may lead to higher fuel consumption. Moreover, if the engine requires A-98, using A-95 may cause problems.

Experts noted that fuel quality depends on additives, not just on the octane number. For cleaning the fuel system, it is recommended to use special additives or quality premium fuel with appropriate additives.

Avoid mixing gasoline of different grades and always follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding fuel selection - this ensures stable operation of the engine in your vehicle.

The opinions of experts are unequivocal: on one hand, mixing A-95 and A-98 may not be as dreadful a practice as many think. But on the other hand, it is better to be careful and follow manufacturers’ recommendations to avoid unforeseen problems with the engine.
