US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent arrived in Kyiv on an official visit and held a meeting with Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal. Economic cooperation and strengthening sanctions against Russia were discussed.

According to the head of the Ukrainian government, the visit of the American official confirms the intention of President Trump's Administration to develop pragmatic and mutually beneficial relations between the countries. Bessent reaffirmed the US commitment to further support for Ukraine.
The introduction of sanctions and strengthening the fight against the Russian 'shadow fleet'
During the meeting, the prospects for economic cooperation were discussed. The US expressed its interest in a peaceful and strong Ukraine and its readiness to help accelerate the recovery of the state.
Shmyhal raised the issue of strengthening sanctions, particularly against 'Rosatom' and Russia's nuclear industry. The need to disconnect all Russian banks from the SWIFT system and to strengthen the fight against the Russian 'shadow fleet' was also discussed. The Ukrainian Prime Minister emphasized the importance of imposing strict sanctions on the entire oil and gas sector of the Russian Federation and the confiscation of frozen Russian assets for the recovery of Ukraine.
The head of the Ukrainian government thanked the people of the United States and President Trump's Administration for their unwavering support for Ukraine.
It should be noted that Zelensky also met with Bessent: the US presented Ukraine with a draft agreement on minerals.
