Ukraine guarantees energy security for Europe
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal called for constant natural gas supply during the winter period and stated that this is the main priority for Ukraine and all of Europe. He expressed his opinion during a conversation with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
'Ukraine is ready to fulfill the obligations we undertook under the Association Agreement with the EU. Therefore, if the European Commission officially addresses Ukraine regarding the transit of any gas other than Russian, we will discuss it and be ready to fulfill the relevant agreements based on the principles of energy security for both the EU as a whole and each European country,' Shmyhal reported.
Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine's agreement with Russia regarding gas transit will expire on January 1, 2025, and will not be extended.
'Ukraine is grateful to all partners in Europe for understanding that Russia uses its energy exports to finance the criminal and unprovoked war against our state and to continue its destabilizing activities against other countries in Europe and the EU as a whole. It is important that the 15th package of EU sanctions further restricts sanctions against the shadow tanker fleet, which brings significant revenues to Russia for continuing the war. The sanctions pressure on the Russian energy sector should be maintained, as this is one of the key elements in compelling Russia to achieve real peace,' Shmyhal stated.
