In Lviv, the opening of a monument at the grave of Ivan Vakarchuk, the former Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, rector of Lviv University and father of the leader of the band 'Okean Elzy', took place. This was reported by 'Gzhytsiya' referring to a post on social networks by the musician and soldier Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.

According to Vakarchuk, the monument was created by sculptor Volodymyr Odrehiivskyi. 'I am very proud of this monument. I thank God for the idea that I have lived with all these years' - noted the artist.

The monument features the letter 'Psi', which in physics denotes the wave function.

'A piece of paper depicting the letter Psi is perhaps the most commonly used symbol in theoretical physics, it is also a symbol of spiritual strength and characterizes my father as he was. Deep, yet simple. Harmonious, but immeasurable' - said Vakarchuk.

As the artist noted, the symbol was firmly etched in his memory since childhood.

'I remember crawling on the floor when I was little, over my father's formulas. And this symbol - is just like a photograph of my memory. My mother, Oleg and I thank everyone who came to the opening today. It is a great honor and pleasure for us' - he added.

Let us remind you that in November 2024, 'Gzhytsiya' reported that Ivan Vakarchuk's grave still did not have a monument over four years after his death.

In 2021, Vakarchuk's son opened a memorial plaque to his father. It appeared on the building of Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko.

Ivan Vakarchuk passed away on April 4, 2020, in Lviv. The scientist was 73 years old. He was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery. Vakarchuk was a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a distinguished figure in Science and Technology of Ukraine.

He also served as the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine from 2007 to 2010 and was the rector of Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko from 1990 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2013. In 2007, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Volodymyr Vyatrovych emphasized on the day of Vakarchuk's death that he initiated the improvement of education quality in Ukraine and the promotion of natural, mathematical, and physical education.
