The level of employment of Ukrainian refugees in Germany has increased, said the Chancellor of the FRG

The number of Ukrainian refugees working in Germany has significantly increased over the past year. According to Wolfgang Schmidt, head of the Chancellor's department in the FRG, the employment rate has risen from 23% to 29% in October 2024.

The increase in employment level was due to the improvement of consultation services for Ukrainian citizens. In addition, the German government has announced its intention to address the shortage of skilled workers and introduce the "most modern immigration legislation in the world" from next year. Schmidt made this statement.

By mid-2024, 266 thousand citizens of Ukraine were officially employed in the FRG, which is 71 thousand more than in October of the previous year. However, only 213 thousand of them have full employment and social benefits, said Labor Minister Hubertus Heil.

According to the Federal Labor Agency, out of 1.65 million Ukrainian refugees in Germany, about 530 thousand are of working age. This means that considering all forms of employment, about half of working-age Ukrainians work full-Time.

It is worth noting that some Ukrainians work part-time or receive low-paying jobs with a salary of less than 538 euros per month, which does not include social contributions under German law.
